Led by Managing Director Dan Thomas, our team’s robust foundation stems from our extensive knowledge and experience in subsea fibre optic cables. From design, testing, and supply of subsea joints and interconnectors to deployment, installation, and maintenance, our strength lies in our comprehensive understanding of every aspect of the process.

Subsea Jointing and Testing Team

  • Dan is an MBA-qualified Managing Director with over 20 years of P&L responsibility across complex engineering and manufacturing environments. He joined SubConnect as Managing Director in 2025. Throughout his career, he has scaled technical businesses from start-up to global operations, delivering proven revenue growth and operational excellence across many markets including data centre, oil & gas, electronics and precision engineering sectors.

  • Craig Beech, BEng (Hons.), MSc, has over 33 years of subsea fibre optic cable industry experience from cable design and manufacture to specialising in jointing design, test and product delivery.

  • Michelle Morgan, BEng (Hons.), has over 27 years of engineering experience, initially specialising in manufacturing engineering. In 2017, she transitioned to the subsea telecommunication industry with Global Marine, joining the Jointing Development Team. She now serves as the technical authority for JADE, UJCM/UQJCMs, kits, equipment, and cable qualification queries.

  • Spike brings over 35 years of industry experience to the team. His extensive background includes vessel-based cable jointing and managing our training schools in the UK, China, and Singapore. For the past 15 years, he has leveraged his vast knowledge to drive UJ sales.

  • Maria Henein has been part of the team since 2017, supporting our clients from initial quotations for kits and equipment, to sales order processing, coordinating with the production team, liaising with the logistics team for delivery, then completing the 360 degree service with invoicing.

  • Jim Lucey brings 31 years of experience in the submarine cable industry, including eight years on board cable installation and maintenance vessels, eight years as a Jointing Instructor, and 15 years as a Testing and Development Supervisor.

  • Jake Bocking joined the team in 2016, he is a qualified UJ/UQJ Jointer who works in the development and testing area. He supports our clients throughout their testing schedule, complying with the appropriate standards and the client’s specifications, ensuring witnesses if requested can observe safely.

  • Leo Foulger, TMIET, has over 22 years experience in development, test, qualification and delivery of fibre optic jointing and telecoms wet plant technologies.

  • Ian has over 35 years experience in the development and delivery of novel wet plant solutions for the high reliability submarine telecommunication and defence synthetic aperture sonar sectors, spanning both domestic and international projects. He is a specialist in deep water mechanics, high pressure sealing, optical/power glanding and cable interfacing.

  • Adrian has over 25 years experience in the mechanical design, development and test of subsea telecommunication products, including technical transfer to manufacture. He specialises in CAD, prototyping, 3D printing and hermetic sealing. Previously Adrian’s work has involved R&D activities in the following industries: materials, terrestrial telecommunications, food and defence.

  • Ion is a mechanical engineer with a background in mechatronics and structural fault diagnosis. He has a decade of significant experience in oil & gas and submarine telecoms delivering concept design and development, CAD, FEA, topology optimization, qualification, testing and documentation.

  • Chris has over 30 years experience with the installation, manufacture, and planning of subsea fibre optic and HV cable projects in deep and shallow water including integration with satellite and microwave systems for remote locations.

  • Tim is an optical engineer with over 25 years experience in the optical design and implementation of end-to-end submarine telecommunication systems. He has particular experience in the development of optical amplifiers for submarine repeaters and optical monitoring and testing systems for the submarine communication environment.

Training School

  • Dave is an experienced Cable Jointer with 13 years of sea service in this role. For the past 16 years, he has shared his considerable expertise of UJ/UQJ and UC, as an Instructor in our Training School.

  • Nigel has over 40 years of experience in subsea cable work, beginning his career in engineering. He has been with Global Marine for the past 28 years, serving as an instructor for 20 of those years. Nigel is skilled in all aspects of Universal Joint work, including UJ/UQJ and UC.
